Maybank AM first fund launch on the back of the ASEAN CIS Framework

Singapore, 28 November 2014 – Maybank Asset Management Singapore Pte Ltd (Maybank AM) has launched its Maybank Focus Funds under the ASEAN Collective Investment Scheme (CIS) Framework.

Maybank AM has launched two core funds, the Maybank Asian Equity Fund and the Maybank Asian Income Fund. These funds were the first in Singapore to be approved by the Monetary Authority of Singapore for cross-border distribution. The two funds will be distributed in Singapore, as well as Malaysia and Thailand upon approval by the local regulators through Maybank AM's respective sister companies.

Maybank AM is part of the Maybank Asset Management Group (Maybank AM Group), which aspires to be one of the leading ASEAN asset management companies by 2017. Maybank AM Group currently has built up offices present in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia, covering distribution and investment management to better serve its clients' needs. The launch of the ASEAN CIS Framework marks a key market development made possible by the collaboration of different regulators to promote asset management growth in this region.

Nor' Azamin Salleh, Group Chief Executive Officer of Maybank AM Group commented, "We believe our on-the-ground presence and local expertise in the key ASEAN countries in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia provide us tremendous insight as we work to deliver the desired investment returns for our clients."

"We are excited with the launch of the ASEAN fund passport and we have planned our first fund launch on the back of this development. The fund passport allows us to distribute our funds more efficiently and avoid the need for duplication via the master feeder fund structure in Malaysia and Thailand," says Maybank AM Chief Executive Officer, Goh Seng Kee. "These two funds are launched under our Maybank Focus Funds umbrella structure and are the first series of funds providing our investors access to investment opportunities in Asian equity and fixed income markets," he adds.

The Maybank Asian Equity Fund is suitable for investors who seek capital growth and are comfortable with the volatility and risks of an equity fund which invests in Asian markets. The Maybank Asian Income Fund is suitable for investors who seek capital growth and income; and are comfortable with the volatility and risks of a fixed income fund which primarily invests in Asian fixed income securities.

These two funds allow investors to benefit in the economic strength in the Asian region, which is expected to grow at a faster rate compared to major developed nations. Apart from new funds, Maybank AM is working with other entities within Maybank AM Group to assess the feasibility of passporting existing established Malaysian-based funds to Singapore and Thailand where these funds meet the requirements of the ASEAN CIS framework.

The Maybank Asian Equity Fund and the Maybank Asian Income Fund will be managed by Maybank AM with the support of a regional team, bringing the collective investment experience of a team totaling 41 investment professionals with an average of more than 10 years of investment experience.
