Kamarul Ariffin Mohd Jamil
 
Chairman

Kamarul Ariffin was appointed as the Chairman and the Independent Non-Executive Director of Maybank Islamic Asset Management (MIAM) on 20 February 2023.

He is a member of the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers with more than 17 years of experience in the banking industry in various capacity culminating in his last appointment as the Group Chief Executive Officer of Affin Bank Berhad. He is currently holding the position of Chairman of Fullrich Malaysia Sdn Bhd, an E-Wallet company operating under the E-Money licence of Bank Negara Malaysia. He is also an Independent Non-Executive Director of Marine & General Berhad and the Chairman of Revenue Monster Sdn Bhd.

Kamarul’s prior experience includes the oil and gas industry where he served in both the downstream business in Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd as well as the upstream business in Trenergy Malaysia Berhad. He also spent five years in Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Berhad, the National Asset Management Company.

Kamarul is a graduate of University of Cambridge where he studied Economics.

Dato’ Muzaffar Hisham
 
Director

Dato Muzaffar Hisham was appointed as the Director of Maybank Islamic Asset Management Sdn Bhd on 22 April 2024.

He is currently the Group Chief Executive Officer of Maybank Islamic Berhad effective on 1 March 2024.

Dato Muzaffar has over 25 years of regional banking experience encompassing wholesale and retail banking at large local and foreign banks. He was previously the CEO of Maybank Islamic Berhad and Group Islamic Banking Head from March 2011 to June 2016, and Group CEO of Global Banking from July 2016 to February 2024.

Mohamed Belqaizi Mohamed Taufik
 
Executive Director

Belqaizi was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer and the Executive Director of Maybank Islamic Asset Management (MIAM) since 31 January 2023 and 1 June 2023 respectively.

He joined Maybank Asset Management Sdn Bhd (MAMSB) in June 2018 as the Head, Investment Specialist & Project Management Office, where he was in charge of leading the investment specialist team as well as executing the firm's projects and strategic initiatives.

Prior to joining MAMSB, he was previously an Associate Director at UBS Investment Bank Malaysia where he was part of the Equity Sales & Trading team, managing the firm’s institutional clients.  He has more than 10 years of experience in the Malaysian financial industry, started as an Institutional Sales Dealer with TA Securities Holdings Berhad and then MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Berhad.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, majoring in Economics from Western Michigan University. He obtained his Capital Markets and Services Representative’s license for Fund Management from the Securities Commission Malaysia in 2018.

Nadjihah Mohd Dzaiddin
 
Director

Nadjihah was appointed as the Head, Sustainability Management of Maybank Islamic Asset Management (MIAM) on 1 December 2023. She is also the Chief Commercial Officer and a Director of MIAM since 7 May 2015 and 1 November 2021 respectively. Prior to that, she headed the investment team at MIAM as the Chief Investment Officer. She joined Maybank Investment Management (later changed to Maybank Asset Management) in 2004 as a fund manager and later became the Head of Equities (Non Insurance). For over 25 years, she has accrued experience in fund management, managing primarily equities and balance funds for pension funds, unit trust funds, corporates and institutions as well as high net worth individuals.

Nadjihah started her investment career at RHB Research Institute as an equity analyst in 1994 and then moved on the fund management side in 1998. She was attached with Affin Fund Management as a fund manager until early 2004. She graduated from University of Nottingham with B.A. Law (Hons) and received her Certificate in Legal Practice in 1994. She is a holder of CMSRL license.

Muhammad Riduan Jasmi
 
Chief Investment Officer

Muhammad Riduan Jasmi was appointed as Chief Investment Officer of Maybank Islamic Asset Management (MIAM) on 6 September 2021. He is responsible for overseeing investments across asset classes together with a team of fund managers at MIAM with their respective responsibilities to manage and monitor investments, in particular, managing pension and institutional funds.

He was formerly the Director of Equities at CIMB-Principal Asset Management and prior to that, Head of Shariah and Takaful Investment at Great Eastern Life Malaysia and also Chief Investment Officer of Muamalat Invest.

Riduan has 20 years of experience in fund management, insurance, and government-linked investment companies with strong research and investment skills in managing multi types of mandates.

He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree majoring in Business and Economics from the Lehigh University, Pennsylvania USA, and is a holder of the CMSRL license.

Prof. Dr. Aznan Hasan
Professor, IIUM Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance, International Islamic University Malaysia

Prof. Dr. Aznan was appointed as the Chairman of the Shariah Committee on 1 May 2014 and a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director 25 April 2019 at Maybank Islamic.

Dr Aznan received his first degree in Shariah from the University of al-Azhar (BA Hons), Egypt and a Master’s degree in Shariah from Cairo University, Egypt with distinction (Mumtaz). He then obtained his PhD from the University of Wales, Lampeter, United Kingdom.

Currently, he is the Deputy Chairman of the Shariah Advisory Council of Securities Commission, the Deputy Chairman of the Shari’a Supervisory Board of Bank Nizwa (Oman), a Board member of Higher Shari’ah Authority of UAE Central Bank, and a Shariah Board member of Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (“AAOIFI”). He had served as a member of the Shariah Advisory Council of Bank Negara Malaysia (2006-2008 and 2010-2013).

He serves as a member of the Shariah Advisory Board/Shariah Committee for Employee Provident Fund. He also serves as a Shariah consultant/adviser to Maybank Investment Bank, Hong Leong Investment Bank (Stockbroking), Public Investment Bank Bhd (Stockbroking), Malacca Securities Bhd, CGS-CIMB Securities Berhad, UOB Kayhian Securities and Inter-Pacific Securities Bhd. He is a registered Shariah Advisor for the Islamic Unit Trust Schemes and Islamic securities (Sukuk), Securities Commission of Malaysia. Additionally, Dr Aznan serves as the Chairman of the Shariah Committee at Etiqa Family Takaful Berhad & Etiqa General Takaful Berhad, Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad, and Amanah Hartanah Bumiputra.

Dr Aznan also serves as a member of the Shariah Advisory Boards of Sedania As-Salam Capital Sdn Bhd, ABSA Islamic Bank (South Africa), FNB Bank (South Africa), Yasaar Limited (London), HSBC Amanah (Dubai), and Standard Chartered (Global), Khalij Islamic (London), Association of Islamic Banking Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM) and International Islamic Financial Market IIFM. Additionally, he acts as an Islamic Estate Planning Advisor, Maybank Islamic Bank Berhad.

Ustaz Mohd Kamal bin Mokhtar
 
Judge, Shariah Appeal Court of Singapore
Ustaz Mohd Kamal was appointed as a member of the Shariah Committee of Maybank Islamic on 1 September 2015.

He graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a B.Sc. in Zoology and Botany. He obtained his Diploma in Arabic Language from the Islamic University of Medina (Saudi Arabia). Proceeded in Faculty of Hadith and graduated with BA (Hons.) in Hadith and Islamic Studies. Additionally, he graduated from Shari'a Advisory Training Program jointly conducted by Singapore Islamic Scholars & Religious Teachers Association (PERGAS) and International Institute of Islamic Finance (IIIF). He holds a Master of Science (Finance) from the International University of Malaysia (IIUM).

He is the Chairman of Bedok Cooperative and a Board member of Warees Halal Limited. He serves as a Shariah Committee member for Basil fund, a private Real Estate Investment fund based in Singapore since 2012 and Shariah Advisor at Ar Rahnu Singapore.

Additionally, Ustaz Kamal serves as an Associate Member of the Fatwa Council of Majlis Ugama Islam Singapore (MUIS) to discuss contemporary matters concerning the general Muslim public in Singapore. He is also a member of Asatizah Recognition Board (ARB) Committee of Future Asatizah of MUIS and PERGAS, a member of International Union for Muslim Scholars and Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance (ASAS).

Dr. Akhtarzaite Abdul Aziz
 
Assistant Professor, Department of Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM)
Dr Akhtarzaite Abdul Aziz was appointed as a member of the Shariah Committee of Maybank Islamic with effect from 1st March 2020.

She is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

She received her Bachelor’s degree in Law in 1994 and subsequently Bachelor’s degree in Shariah a year later in 1995. She then obtained her Master’s degree in Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh in 2000 and followed-by PhD in Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh in 2015, all from International Islamic University Malaysia (“IIUM”).

Currently, she is the Chairman of the Shariah Committee of Great Eastern Takaful Berhad and serves as a member of Shariah Advisory Committee of IIUM Endowment Fund.

Dr. Nik Abdul Rahim Nik Abdul Ghani
 
Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Islamic Studies at University Kebangsaan Malaysia
Dr Nik Abdul Rahim was appointed as a member of the Shariah Committee of Maybank Islamic with effect from 8 September 2020.

He is a senior lecturer at the Research Centre for Shariah, Faculty of Islamic Studies at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Dr Nik Abdul Rahim received his bachelor’s degree in Shariah from Islamic University of Medina in 2003 and master’s degree in Shariah from UKM in 2009. He then obtained his PhD in Islamic Finance from the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF, Malaysia ) in 2017.

Currently, he serves as a member of the Shariah Advisory Body of Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Keluarga Berhad, Jawatankuasa Perundingan Hukum Syarak Wilayah Persekutuan - Pejabat Mufti Wilayah Persekutuan, Syariah Advisory Panel of Wasiyyah Shoppe Berhad and Shariah Committee of UKM.

Associate Professor Dr Sharifah Faigah Syed Alwi
 
Senior Lecturer, Arshad Ayub Graduate Business School and the Faculty of Business and Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA
Associate Professor Dr Sharifah Faigah Syed Alwi was appointed as a member of the Shariah Committee of Maybank Islamic with effect from 1 May 2021.

She is a senior lecturer at Arshad Ayub Graduate Business School and the Faculty of Business and Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA.

She received her bachelor’s degree in Shariah (Economics) and her master’s degree in Shariah (Islamic Banking) from the University of Malaya in 1995 and 2004 respectively. She then obtained her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Islamic Banking and Finance from the International Islamic University Malaysia in 2012.

Previously, Dr Sharifah Faigah was a Shariah Committee member at Export-Import Bank of Malaysia Berhad and United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Bhd. Currently, she is the panel of assessor of Malaysian Qualifications Agency to ensure the quality of the Islamic banking and finance program offered by the universities in Malaysia. At the same time, she is appointed as the visiting professor, external advisor and external examiner for Islamic banking and finance program for a few public and private universities in Malaysia, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.

Currently, she serves as a member of Shariah Committee, Agrobank (Malaysia) and AmMetLife Takaful Malaysia.

Ustaz Muhammad Ali Jinnah Ahmad
Ustaz Muhammad Ali Jinnah bin Ahmad was appointed as a member of the Shariah Committee of Maybank Islamic with effect from 1 May 2021.

He holds a Bachelor in Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh wa Usul) from Al al-Bayt University, Jordan in 2002 and Master in Islamic Management, Banking and Finance at Loughborough University, UK in 2004. He is currently pursuing his PhD at International University of Malaya-Wales.

Ustaz Muhammad Ali started his career as a lecturer at Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS) and later joined International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) as a researcher from 2009 to 2017. He was the Chairman of Shariah Committee at BNP Paribas Malaysia Berhad and BNP Paribas Labuan Branch. He also served as the Chairman of Shariah Committee and Independent Non-Executive Director at HSBC Amanah Takaful Malaysia Berhad.

Currently, he is an Independent Non-Executive Director at FWD Takaful Malaysia Berhad.
